National Park De Biesbosch

National Park De Biesbosch is a unique nature reserve: freshwater tides determine its rhythm.

De Biesbosch is connected, through the New Waterway, to the sea. The rising and falling waters of the sea push up the waters of the rivers. Experience nature, the rhythm of the tides and the peace and space that the Biesbosch has to offer you. Our storyteller Prisca Visser visited the Biesbosch. She delved into the past, searched for beaver tracks and spent a night in a cabin deep hidden in nature. She wrote a blog about her journey of discovery.

Nature

Reed beds, rare plant species, grassland, water and, of course, the beaver. That is nature in the Biesbosch. Walk, cycle or sail into nature on your own, or learn everything about the flora and fauna of the Biesbosch on an excursion with a forester from Staatsbosbeheer.

Hiking and boating

The wet grassland of the Biesbosch begs to be explored. By canoe or from an electric tour or whisper boat, you'll see all the beauty from the water. And for a different perspective, hiking trails abound.

Visitor Centers and Museum

In the visitor centers at the park's entry points you can learn all about the nature and history of the Biesbosch. You will find visitor centers in Drimmelen and Dordrecht.

The Biesbosch Museumeiland in Werkendam is worth a special visit. Here you will find the "Biesbosch Experience. This scale model of the Biesbosch with polders, dikes and streams, makes the water management operation and importance of this beautiful nature reserve understandable.
