Slot loevestein Since 1361, Slot Loevestein has been watching over Maas and Waal. Knight Dirc Loef van Horne had the castle built as a toll station. Later the castle became the state prison from which Hugo de Groot escaped and a fortress in the New Dutch Waterline. And today it is a great place for a day out.

Burg Loevestein Visit the Castle

Slot Loevestein is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

With your personal key you can access the castle, start presentations and unlock stories. At fixed points in the castle, guides recount the history of the castle. Private tours are available by appointment. The castle stands in the middle of nature. Therefore, combine your visit to Loevestein with a walk or bike ride in the area.

Children

Children can also have a great time at Loevestein. Dress up as a damsel or knight, escape from Hugo de Groot's book chest, and explore the castle with your own key.
