Hiking trails around Woudrichem and the Biesbosch

Hikers can enjoy the municipality of Altena. The area is rich in hiking trails through nature and past historical sites in the landscape. The tourist office collected walking routes for every taste: from treasure hunt to long-distance walk.

Pick & Picnic Routes

The Guide to Pick & Picnic Routes features 19 walks, each with picnic areas, farm stores and self-picking locations along the route. The 21 cores in the Municipality of Altena are connected by these walks. Each core has a starting point. The walks can be combined with each other through a convenient network of nodes. Make the walk as long as you like!

Oostwaardpad: 23 km walk on the edge of the Biesbosch

Sometimes you think you know all the places in your own area. How surprising it is then to discover something new! And not just anything, but something you would like to take others to because it has made such an impression on you. Such places can be found along the Oostwaardpad; a walking route in the Oostwaard on the edge of National Park De Biesbosch. The ANV 's route runs along and across fields and creeks. You walk, marvel and take a ferry across the Bakkerskil.

City Walk Woudrichem

A walk through the picturesque fortified town of Woudrichem. A tour along all the historical highlights, with fun facts about the ins and outs of the fortified town. The walk is available online, or at one of the tourist information points of the VVV.

Guided city tour of Woudrichem

A special guild is active in Woudrichem: the City Guides Guild. 15 enthusiastic guides provide guided tours through 'Woerkum'. Most of them were born and raised in the fortified town. After a walk with a city guide you will have gained a lot of knowledge and stories.

A treasure hunt along all the secret places of Woudrichem. Learn all about this old fortified town and the exciting stories that took place there. Your tour starts and ends at the Pancake Bakery.

Fortified Town Triangle

In the footsteps of Dr. Tinus

The popular series Dr. Tinus was set in Wourkem, but was shot in Woudrichem. The whole town became one big film set during the filming. Follow the traces of Dr. Tinus with this walking route and visit all the famous locations from the series: from his practice, to Lisa's house or the church where he got married.

Location Bieschbosch Line

Walking through the Waterline

Five walks developed in the context of the New Dutch Waterline. Your starting point each time is an important part of this line. The walks start in Fort Altena, Fort Giessen, Fort Bakkerskil and Woudrichem, and are between 7 and 13 kilometers long. For a trip across the water to the "neighbors" in Gorinchem, there is the Walking and boating route.

Waterline Trail

A long-distance hike of 20.6 km. This is stage 18 of the waterline path: a 350-kilometer total hike along the Stelling van Amsterdam and the Nieuwe Hollandse waterlinie.

This stage leads from Fort Vuren, through the fortified town of Gorinchem and Slot Loevestein to Woudrichem.
