The flat landscape surrounding Woudrichem, with dikes, fields and rivers hosts a large number of cycling routes.
The New Dutch Waterline is the largest national monument in the Netherlands.
The line runs from Muiden to the Biesbosch. With the fortified town triangle, the Biesbosch Line is home to four forts, two locks, several casemates and a fortified town. You can visit all but one fort.
Take a bicycle tour along Fort Altena, Fort Bakkerskil, the Papsluis, the Sluis and fortified town Woudrichem and don't forget to visit Slot Loevestein. Various routes are available at the VVV brochure stations. A small selection can be found on the cycle route page as a download.
Wijk en Aalburg, in the municipality of Altena, is home to multiple world and Olympic cycling champion Marianne Vos. The municipality is proud of such a resident, and placed a bench or world title at each world title to celebrate Marianne's achievements. The Marianne Vos bike route takes you past all of these rest stops and other points of interest in the region.
Prefer to get out into nature? You can do that too! Away from all the noise, you cycle into nature in the Biesbosch Line. The municipality of Altena is full of nature and water.
